From mid July through Labor day, Saratoga is the place to be for horse racing! Saratoga Race Track in Saratoga Springs New York, is one of the most famous horse racing venues in the world. It is one of three tracks along with Belmont Park and Aqueduct, which the New York Racing Association operates. Saratoga Race Track – Famous Upsets

Saratoga Race Track is known by the nickname “The Graveyard of Favorites” for its rich history of playing host to some of the racing world’s most spectacular upsets. In the history of racing, the legendary Man o’ War was served his one defeat in a 21-start career at Saratoga. In the 1930 Travers Stakes, front runner Gallant Fox suffered an unbelievable defeat by Jim Dandy, a 100-1 long-shot. Saratoga Race Track Tradition

The regal sport of horse racing is rich in tradition, and the Saratoga Race Track is no exception. Notably, a canoe that glides along a lake in the middle of the track is newly painted each year in the colors of the winner of the Travers Stakes. Another familiar tradition that takes place before each race is the hand ringing of a bell, precisely 17 minutes before the start of the race.
